In his book The Healing Power of Sound , oncologist and sound healing pioneer, the late Mitch Gaynor discusses the use of sound Healing in our present culture. He states that "every culture apart from our own since the beginning of time, has used sound and music as part of their healing practices. "

Since the publication of that particular book and the numerous others that followed, things are beginning to change and this is partly due to the contribution he himself made in bringing sound as a healing modality back into focus as a valid form of treatment in our modern world.

19th Century Austrian philosopher and visionary Rudolph Steiner is quoted as saying

" Pure tones will be used for healing before the end of the 20th century."

Indeed this does appear to be  happening and with the number of studies underway today, it should not be long before sound therapy technology is embraced by mainstream medicine as a powerful complementary therapy. A few  hospitals in New Zealand have begun  incorporating Shamanic drumming as a complementary method of healing alongside traditional allopathic treatment programmes and thus combining ancient methods with that of the science of modern technology.

Information relating to use of Rife machines as developed by Raymond Rife in the 1920s which involves use of low energy radio waves as a treatment for Cancer is  easily accessed on browsing webs and appears to be gaining attention amongst certain groups. Rife supporters claim that all medical conditions have an electromagnetic frequency and the Rife machine works by finding the frequency, and an impulse of the same frequency is used to kill or dissipate diseased cells.  Though Cancer Research UK very clearly state that there is " no reliable evidence to support its use as a treatment for cancer", the prediction  that Sound and frequency may be the" Medicine of the Future " as stated by Edgar Cayne  (1877-1945, who some consider to be the true founder of The New Age movement) appears to be perhaps coming to fruition.

Much research into the use of sound and  light  frequencies as a form of treatment for disease including use of gamma 40 hertz  frequency light therapy for use in diseases such as Alzheimers is currently underway.

As we collectively and individually continue to adopt and embrace a holistic approach to wellbeing and reconnect with the wisdom of the  ancient cultures who understood the true nature of (dis-ease), sound healing helps to reconnect with forgotten and lost parts of ourselves in order to access wisdom within, as to the nature and possible solutions to all of our problems and ills.
